Computer Based Training

What Is CBT?

One of the most innovative uses of new media is that of CBT, or Computer Based Training. Some of the advantages of Computer Based Training are:

  • Self paced
  • Delivered in multiple learning modals
  • Competency based
  • Training quality control

How Does It Work?

Computer Based Training is delivered on a computer from a CD-ROM, Interactive DVD or the Internet. Training content is delivered in chapters. At the end of each chapter a series of questions are asked to ensure the training material has been understood.

Larger training systems will also include a Learning Management System, or LMS, that can track an employees progress through a series of training programs. Abacus Webware will ensure our CBT's will work with your LMS or if you don't have an LMS but would like one, Abacus can work with you to develop a system that works specifically within your needs.

Examples

The best way to see how CBT works is to try it out. Below are two examples. One is a Contractor Orientation system that is video based and delivered over the web. The other is a operator training CBT for a pulp mill which can be delivered on a CD-ROM or over a company Intranet.

  • Contractor Orientation
  • Operator Training
